My passions are learning, discovering and teaching!!
Welcome to Laurie Haddock's electronic Portfolio.
This is an educational website created for a final project and professional
use for a masters in Educational Technology at Eastern Connecticut University .
The navigation bar at the left specifies a collection of materials I have developed during
the completion of my Educational Technology degree. Each page is equipped with user friendly navigation buttons and many interactive
hyperlinks. The six Narrative Strands will lead you to a separate page in my portfolio which will include a response to the strand and highlighted appendices
that relate directly to the response. The Matrix containing the NETS*T standards (National Education Technology Standards), CCCT (Connecticut Common Core of
Teaching, and (CF)- ECSU Proficiencies will be accompanied by my thorough collection of Appendices displaying
my understanding of each. The Appendices page has embedded documents (hyperlink ) and very importantly the captions for each artifact. My educational philosophy, resume, and professional goals are also located in the navigation bar at the left. This portfolio contains all of the materials necessary to teach an entire
year seventh grade earth science. References can be found at each response as well as a cumulative reference page in this portfolio. Thank you for visiting my e-portfolio.
I am a 7th grade science teacher and team leader at Smith Middle School in Glastonbury
Ct. I am currently in my 12th year of teaching. I teach all aspects of Earth Science including chemistry.
I started in my adult career path right out of college as a medical technologist working in a hospital laboratory.
I was moonlighting as an instructor when I discovered my love of teaching. After 10 years in the laboratory, I entered
the “Alternate route to Certification” ;a program for individuals already in a professional career and also interested
in teaching, this was a great fit for me! I am crazy about technology and science! My
district makes it possible for me to teach via hands on activities, labs, group work, and offer the students their favorite
mode of presenting cumulative projects (Power Points, web pages, brochures, posters, videos, play acting). The administration
fully supports the use of technology and I am happy to rise to the challenge. I utilize a variety of virtual learning labs
and activities which I also make available on my website. Hands on and active learning is key! My
goal is for the students to apply what they learn, not to memorize.
Since the beginning of these courses my endeavor is to use my website to create the most efficient and comprehensive
communication tool for students and parents. Students are able to access notes, assignments, attachments containing worksheets
from class, games, virtual labs, links for research, online quizzes and much more. The online courses have especially taught me how to effectively communicate
solely via technology in a virtual class room.
